Sapphire Appreciation
At Caroline Hjerpe we adore imperfections, wrinkles, grey hair and scars - This philosophy is what also makes us love our gems, because just like us, each stone is UNIQUE.
Our all time favourite gem stone is the SAPPHIRE. Did you know that they come in almost every color of the rainbow? This is just one of the many reasons why we LOVE them!
Sapphires can be heated to change or intensify color - but the natural colors are the absolute prettiest, according to us. Here's an example of what they can look like when excavated from the mines. All natural, no heating, treating or anything - this is actually what is found in the ground, raw and natural.
There is no such thing as a red sapphire since it's the same thing as another famous gemstone - the ruby. These two stones share the same chemical composition, which actually make them identical. Other than red, you can find a sapphire in whatever color you desire!
Alongside diamonds, sapphires are one of the most popular gemstone worldwide when it comes to jewelry. They come from a mineral called corundum, which is a very hard substance and this is what makes sapphires perfect for wearing - they are hard to scratch or break and will, if you treat them with kindness, last you a life time! This is why we always recommend either diamond or a sapphire for engagement rings.
We aren't the only ones who adore sapphires - they've been regarded as some of the most exclusive gemstones since the Middle Ages and royal families have been wearing them all over the world. It's the birth stone of September and is said to symbolize nobility, truth, sincerity and faithfulness. Sapphires are found in many parts of the world, but most of them are from Sri Lanka, Kahmir, Burma and Madagascar.
Our hearts beat a bit extra for our unheated, untreated sapphires and we recently stocked up with a bunch of new ones! THANK YOU mother nature for giving us these exquisite things 😍😍😍
