Recycled and Conflict Free

Every single piece made by us at Caroline Hjerpe is real - no gold plating or cutting corners!

Sterling silver and 18-carat gold are paired with precious stones to make jewelry that not only looks amazing but is made to last and hand down to the next generation to be loved in a new way, by new women. To stand by this philosophy, we only use solid recycled materials.

We believe that the right way to work is to reuse materials - it's the only way forward! That's why all our silver and gold are 100% recycled and come from old jewelry pieces or other types of gold waste. When it comes to our beloved stones, we make sure that they all are conflict free and come from reputable conditions.

Conflict free essentially means that the diamonds and gems come from a region that is free of all violence and human rights violations. Conflict diamonds, more commonly referred to as ”blood diamonds,” are mined under cruel working conditions and are often environmentally and socially irresponsible leading to negative impacts on the region and its surrounding areas. In order to be conflict free, the extraction of the pieces must be done in a way that assures there is no violence, extreme poverty, child labor or exploitation of workers and no negative impact on the environment.

We work closely with our suppliers to utilize recycled diamonds as often as possible to help minimize the need for new mining operations, which can contribute to a more sustainable industry and planet. For 2021 we are planning to upscale this practice and offer you even more pre-used and antique diamonds!

It is crucial to us that we always stay true to our values, so sometimes we even travel to see the stones for ourselves to ensure high quality and upstanding sources - like the time we travelled to Arizona in the U.S to meet our turquoise supplier or to India to find the perfect tourmalines!

By designing and crafting our playful, yet elegant jewelry by hand, with lots of love, we're keeping the pieces unique and solid. This means that our hands work hard for our craft and that’s why you’ll often catch glimpses of them in all their working glory. Chipped nail polish, smudges and cuts - our hands have a story to tell and we're proud to flaunt them!
